JEE Main 2026 Eligibility Criteria – Updated by NTA
Eligibility ensures candidates have foundational knowledge for engineering admissions.
Criteria are as per NTA guidelines for 2026, with no major changes from 2025.
Age Limit
No age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2026.
For admission to NITs / IIITs / GFTIs: Minimum 75% aggregate in Class 12
(65% for SC/ST) or top 20 percentile in board examination.
Educational Qualification
Passed Class 12 or equivalent in 2024, 2025, or appearing in 2026.
For B.E. / B.Tech (Paper 1): Physics and Mathematics compulsory, along with one of
Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical Vocational subject.
For B.Arch (Paper 2A): Mathematics compulsory; Physics and Chemistry as above.
For B.Planning (Paper 2B): Mathematics compulsory.
Number of Attempts
Maximum three consecutive years (six sessions total, two per year).
Nationality
Indian nationals, including OCI / PIO; foreign nationals eligible for specific quotas.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern
JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode across two sessions.
There is no offline mode; all papers will be conducted online.

JEE Main 2026 – Overview of Exam Structure
JEE Main 2026 serves as a qualifier for JEE Advanced and direct admission to
NITs / IIITs / GFTIs. It tests conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills
from Class 11 and 12 syllabus.
Sessions: Two (Session 1: January 2026; Session 2: April 2026). Best score considered for ranking.
Total Marks: Paper 1 – 300; Paper 2A / 2B – 400
Normalization: Scores normalized across sessions and shifts for fairness
Result: Percentile-based; top 2.5 lakh candidates qualify for JEE Advanced
