What is INSPIRE?

INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) is a flagship program of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

Its main objective is to attract talented students towards the study of science and a career in scientific research.

Major Components of INSPIRE:

• SEATS (Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent)

  Purpose: To attract young school children (Class 6th to 10th) towards science at an early stage.

  Main Activities:

  • INSPIRE Awards: Students from classes 6th to 10th are awarded a cash prize of ₹5000 for innovative science project ideas.
  • INSPIRE Internship Camps: Science camps for Class 11 students where they interact with top scientists and experience the joy of innovation.
• SHE (Scholarship for Higher Education)

  Purpose: To provide scholarships to meritorious students for higher education in science.

  Key Features:

  • Students who secure top 1% positions in Class 12 board exams or those who qualify prestigious exams like JEE (Advanced), NEET, KVPY, NTSE, etc., are eligible.
  • Selected students pursuing B.Sc., B.S., Int. M.Sc./M.S. degrees receive a scholarship of ₹80,000 per year, for up to 5 years.
• AORC (Assured Opportunity for Research Careers)

  Purpose: To nurture a long-term career in scientific research.

  Main Components:

  • INSPIRE Fellowship: Financial support for students pursuing Ph.D. in basic and applied sciences after completing M.Sc.
  • INSPIRE Faculty Scheme: Opportunity and financial support for post-doctoral researchers to conduct independent research in recognized institutions.

Application Process:

Mode of Application: All applications are to be submitted online only through the INSPIRE portal.

Important Documents Required:

• Class 10th and 12th mark sheets
• Admission proof from the college/university
• If applicable, certificates of JEE/NEET/KVPY/NTSE ranks

Selection Process:

• Applications are reviewed and verified.
• Selected candidates receive a provisional offer letter via their registered account on the portal.
• The full selection process usually takes around 4 months after application submission.
