NDA 2026 Eligibility Criteria – Updated by UPSC

Eligibility ensures candidates meet age, education, and physical standards for defense services. Criteria for 2026 are as per UPSC guidelines.

Nationality

  • Citizen of India, or subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or Tibetan refugee (settled before January 1, 1962), or person of Indian origin from specified countries (Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, Vietnam) with intention to settle permanently.

Age Limit

  • Born not earlier than July 2, 2007, and not later than July 1, 2010 (16.5 to 19.5 years as on July 1, 2026).
  • For NDA II: Born not earlier than January 2, 2008, and not later than January 1, 2011.

Educational Qualification

  • For Army Wing: Class 12 pass or appearing from recognized board/university.
  • For Air Force and Naval Wings: Class 12 pass or appearing with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Marital Status

  • Unmarried males only (women are eligible for certain entries from 2021, but check the notification).

Physical Standards

  • Height: Minimum 157 cm (Army), 162.5 cm (Air Force pilots), relaxations for certain regions (e.g., +5 cm for Lakshadweep).
  • Weight: Proportionate to height and age.
  • Vision: 6/6 in better eye; no color blindness.
  • Medical: Fit as per defense standards (detailed in Appendix-IV of notification).

No resignation/withdrawal from previous defense training on disciplinary grounds.

Note: Candidates debarred by Ministry of Defence are ineligible. Failed CPSS/PABT candidates eligible for Air Force ground duties.

Job Profile & Cadet Life

Role: Train as future officers in Army, Navy, or Air Force; lead operations, manage teams, ensure national security.
